Training
Introduction
Click Here to see details of all training courses being provided specifically for fosters carers working for Reading Borough Council. This programme aims to provide you with skills to support your work as a foster carer.
In addition, foster carers can apply to attend other training courses provided by Reading Borough Council for social care workers.
Core training courses
The following training courses are core training. These courses provide essential training for foster carers and should be undertaken as soon as possible after approval. These courses will be offered annually subject to demand.
Dates
Most training courses take place on Saturdays to enable foster carers to attend training.
If you need to arrange childcare, please discuss this with your Link Worker.
Venues
The venues have been selected to provide a suitable learning environment with disabled access. Wherever possible venues are accessible by both public transport and car.
Refreshments
Tea and coffee is provided on arrival, mid-morning and mid-afternoon. In addition, a sandwich lunch is provided for whole day courses unless stated otherwise.
Training Credit Payments
There is one-off payment of £100 per family once four of the core training courses have been completed.
There is a further payment of £50 per person completing NVQ level 3 in Children and Young People/Health and Social Care.
How to apply
Please contact your Link Worker to discuss your training needs and complete an application form. An application form must be completed for each course place. Completed application forms to be sent to:

Closing dates
The closing date for all course applications in 3 weeks before the course date unless stated otherwise.
